It's one thing to set a goal; it's another thing to follow through and achieve it—and this is where many people find themselves getting stuck. Even with the best of intentions and a sincere effort, many people feel as if they're up against a wall as they pursue their goals. The inability to reach a desired goal can be frustrating and disheartening. It can lead to a loss of confidence, even causing you to shrink back from pursuing other goals in future. You think about it. You visualize it. You may even pray about it. Yet nothing happens; nothing changes. Each day feels just like the one before, and what little hope and enthusiasm you had gradually drains away. Is change really possible? Yes, it absolutely is possible! Regardless of where you may be at and what you may be dealing with, change is within reach. But in order for change to take place in your life, you need to actually change something. No-one enjoys feeling conflicted about something in their life. Being stuck in this state can be a confusing, frustrating, and draining experience. It can also become a major distraction over time, as you go back and forth in an attempt to gain clarity. Fortunately, there are things you can do to begin bringing some much-needed clarity. The following steps will help you resolve the conflict you're facing, so you feel energized and equipped to move forward with confidence. No matter how much two people love and respect each other, they are bound to encounter a few bumps from time to time. Whether it's a difference of opinion, a difference in goals, or a difference in values, at some point, these differences will lead to disagreements. Ideally, you want to get on top of those disagreements and resolve them before they escalate into antagonistic conflict. Healthy compromise enables you to do just that. But what exactly does healthy compromise look like? It could be the most innocuous of actions, like a casual comment. It might be something you normally wouldn't react to, but for some reason, this time was different. It might not even be what someone said or did, but rather what they didn't say or do. Whatever it is, it got your blood boiling and you can feel yourself having a stronger than usual reaction. Whatever the details, these situations can lead to all kinds of harm — in some cases, irreparable harm — if we don't handle things well. On the surface, it might seem like a silly question, but the reality is that many people truly don't know their own mind. It's not always a simple or easy task. It can be a real struggle to know your own mind, when there is so much coming at you from other sources, be it family, friends, the media, or society in general. Brainstorming is well-known as a favoured technique for generating ideas and finding solutions. But what if you don't enjoy doing it? What if you feel like you're not good at it? Brainstorming is supposed to open up the flow of thoughts, but what if you find it actually has the opposite effect? What if trying to "force" yourself to brainstorm on the spot does more to shut down the flow of ideas, rather than generating them? Brainstorming can indeed be useful, but much of its success has to do with how you approach it. As with so many things, customizing your approach to meet your personal needs is key to having a successful brainstorming session.
